Our biggest Maksutov-Cassegrain StarSeeker IV GoTo telescope combines motorized object-location technology with high-power optical performance at a great price. With its computerized database of over 42,000 celestial objects to explore, this smart GoTo telescope will lead you and your family on a guided tour of the stars on any clear night.
Featuring a compact, yet large-aperture Maksutov-Cassegrain optical tube with an extra-long 1800mm focal length and f/12 focal ratio, the StarSeeker IV 150mm Mak-Cass collects a ton of light with its big 5.9" objective lens for bright views. Thanks to its combination of substantial aperture and long focal length, this telescope yields super-sharp resolution at high magnifications, making it an ideal instrument for high-power views of objects in the night sky. You'll be amazed by the exceptional amount of detail this telescope delivers when observing the Moon's cratered surface, and by its ability to reveal subtle features on planets like Jupiter, Saturn and Mars. Deep-sky objects such as nebulas, star clusters, and brighter galaxies are also well within range of this compact power-performer.
The SynScan GoTo hand controller included with the Orion StarSeeker IV 150mm telescope contains a database of over 42,000 stars and deep sky objects, which you can explore with pushbutton ease. No knowledge of the night sky is necessary! Select from intuitive object menus or try the "Deep Sky Tour" mode to visit a selection of the evening's best objects. Once a desired target is pinpointed, the StarSeeker IV mount's internal motors automatically track it to keep it centered in the eyepiece.
What's more, the StarSeeker IV mount is now Wi-Fi enabled, which allows you to control it wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet instead of the cabled hand controller! Just download the FREE SynScan Pro app to your iOS or Android device to enjoy wireless GoTo control! The app sets up a local Wi-Fi network between your phone and the mount, so no internet connection is needed in the field. Hey, you use your phone for everything else — why not use it to explore the night sky with your telescope, too?
This fourth generation StarSeeker telescope features dual optical encoders on each axis of motion which allow you to move the telescope tube either manually by hand, or electronically by using the directional arrows on the GoTo hand controller. To save time, battery life, and reduce motor wear, you can manually point the telescope towards the general area of a target object, then engage the tube lock and use the hand controller to let the GoTo mount finish the fine-centering of the object electronically.
This complete GoTo telescope setup includes a thorough assortment of useful accessories:
Two wide-field 1.25" eyepieces are included with the StarSeeker IV 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass.
The included 23mm wide-field eyepiece provides 78x magnification in the 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain optical tube, and the 10mm ocular yields a very high-magnification, 180x view through the telescope for close-up inspections of starry skies. Each included eyepiece has a wide, 60° apparent field-of-view to show you more of the target object and its surroundings.
Use the included 90° star diagonal to view the night sky comfortably.
A diagonal "bends" the light path of a telescope so you can enjoy the view without having to contort yourself into awkward positions to peer into the eyepiece. The 1.25" 90° star diagonal that comes with the StarSeeker IV 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass places the eyepiece you're using in a comfortable position for nighttime stargazing of the skies above.
The Orion EZ Finder II reflex sight makes it "EZ" to center alignment stars.
Use the included EZ Finder II reflex sight to help center initial alignment stars when performing the two-star alignment required for accurate GoTo performance. This non-magnifying sighting device superimposes a tiny, LED-powered red dot, focused at infinity, on the sky. After a simple alignment procedure, the red dot shows exactly where your telescope is pointed.
Let the computerized GoTo controller guide you on a tour.
The StarSeeker IV 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass lets you explore the skies with pushbutton ease thanks to its GoTo hand controller. With a vast database of over 42,000 celestial objects including stars, double stars, galaxies, nebulas, star clusters, and more, the included computerized GoTo hand controller will become your tour guide to the skies. The built-in "Tour" mode will show you great sights on any clear night.
Use the included DeepMap 600 Folding Star Chart to plan deep sky observing adventures!
The Orion StarSeeker IV 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass Telescope includes the popular DeepMap 600 folding star chart. This "road map" of the cosmos will tell you just where to look in the night sky to find interesting objects to explore in the big Orion StarSeeker IV 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass Telescope. Color-coded symbols identify more than 500 galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters — including all 109 Messier objects — as well as some 100 of the most interesting double and variable stars. DeepMap folds up just like a road map for easy packing, and it's printed on durable dew-proof material for worry-free outdoor use.
Use the included MoonMap 260 to learn the names of the features you see on the Moon.
With locations and names of over 260 features on the Moon such as craters, mountains, valleys, "seas" and more, the included Orion MoonMap 260 is a great tool for beginning astronomers. Try a fun family activity of sketching craters and other Moon features you see through the Orion StarSeeker IV 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass Telescope, and then find them on the included MoonMap 260 to discover their official names. Or, you can keep the MoonMap 260 handy while you look through the Orion StarSeeker IV 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass Telescope to help identify lunar features as you observe them. "Wow, that bright crater is named Tycho!"
This 150mm GoTo Mak-Cass features a big, 2" visual back so you can use optional 2" diagonals and eyepieces if desired (sold separately). A handy 1.25" step-down adapter is included for the 2" visual back to allow easy installation of the included 1.25" accessories.
The StarSeeker IV GoTo mount and its slanted, single-arm altazimuth design provides attached telescopes with 360° of azimuth motion and 90° of altitude motion for horizon-to-zenith pointing. A quick-release narrow dovetail saddle makes telescope attachment nice and easy. The StarSeeker IV 150mm features an upgraded cylindrical leg stainless steel tripod that is much sturdier than previous models and adjusts in height for comfortable use. Tripod stability is further enhanced with the included dual-purpose spreader plate/accessory holder, which keeps the tripod rigid and provides a handy area for stowing idle eyepieces and accessories. The entire telescope setup weighs 26.1 lbs. for convenient transportability.
Since the StarSeeker IV 150mm Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope can locate and track celestial objects with its motorized GoTo system, you can use it along with a camera or smartphone to take impressive pictures of the night sky. Capture stunning snapshots of the Moon, planets and more by attaching a dedicated astrophotography camera, or a combination of an Orion SteadyPix accessory and your own point-and-shoot camera or smartphone to the StarSeeker IV 150mm Mak-Cass to explore the rewarding hobby of astrophotography. (Cameras and SteadyPix accessories sold separately.)
Each StarSeeker IV telescope is powered by 8 internally stored AA batteries (not included). A 12V DC auto-lighter plug is included for use of optional 12V DC field batteries.
