This delightfully portable, short focal-length refractor telescope gives wonderfully wide views of the night sky! Believe it or not, you do not need a big, bulky telescope to enjoy backyard astronomy. Our little Orion Observer 80ST Equatorial Refractor Telescope proves otherwise. Compact and hassle free, it's easy to take outside and set up, and easy to bring in when you're done.
The versatile telescope's 80mm-aperture objective lens has a short focal length of 400mm (f/5), which makes the Observer 80ST extremely portable and compact. Thanks to the telescope's fast f/5 focal ratio, bright, wide-field views of the stars and deep-space objects are the Observer 80ST's forte! Tracking celestial objects while viewing them in the Observer 80ST telescope is a cinch with the smooth and stable EQ-1B equatorial mount and tripod. The EQ-1B mount supports the telescope and mimics the rotational axes of the Earth, which in turn allows you to manually "track" celestial objects with the Orion Observer 80ST refractor using slow-motion controls.
The Observer 80ST refractor telescope comes with a reflex sight, 90-degree diagonal (1.25"), and 10mm and 25mm Kellner 1.25" telescope eyepieces. Along with the complete refractor telescope, the accessories included in this value-packed kit have been selected to enhance your stargazing experiences.
A 2-power (2x) Barlow lens is an extremely versatile telescope accessory that doubles the magnification of any eyepiece installed. Using the included Shorty 2x Barlow with the 10mm eyepiece in the Orion Observer 80ST Equatorial Refractor bumps its viewing power from 40x to 80x, and boosts the 25mm eyepiece's magnification from 16x to 32x when used with the telescope. What's more, you can use the compact Shorty 2x Barlow with any other 1.25" eyepieces you already have, or any you purchase in the future.
With locations and names of over 260 features on the Moon such as craters, mountains, valleys, "seas" and more, the included Orion MoonMap 260 is a great tool for beginning astronomers. This detailed map will even show you where various spacecraft have landed on the Moon's surface! The whole family will enjoy looking at the Moon with the Orion Observer 80ST Equatorial Refractor, then discovering the names of the craters and other features you've seen in the telescope.
This circular star map lets you dial-in the month and day you're observing the sky, so you can see exactly which constellations and stars will be visible if skies are clear. Using the Orion Star Target is a great way for starters to plan their first stargazing sessions with the Orion Observer 80ST Equatorial Refractor, since you'll know just where to point the telescope!
This book will help you explore amazing celestial objects including planetary, emission and reflection nebulas; double and multiple stars; open and globular star clusters, the Andromeda Galaxy, and more. With a full page of information dedicated to each interesting object, author Richard J. Bartlett leads you on a detailed tour of the night sky as he describes over 60 fascinating astronomical objects that can easily be seen with a small telescope.
You don't need a big flashlight to read star maps or see inside your accessory case at night. The included 2.5"-long Orion RedBeam Mini Flashlight does the job perfectly, emitting night-vision friendly red LED light. Red light won't disrupt your eyes' dark-adapted vision, so this flashlight lets you check charts and accessories while keeping your eyes primed for viewing celestial gems through the Orion Observer 80ST Equatorial Refractor Telescope. Includes batteries and a handy key-ring.
